CRASH/CUT is a student-run, peer-reviewed journal published by the University of Calgary Film Society. The journal is currently on indefinite hiatus, as the Film Society is restructuring with a new team of club executives.

Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit papers about topics in the fields of cinema, television, and media arts. Papers should be academic, ideally written for a related course at the University of Calgary. Papers should be formatted with Chicago style citations, and be in an editable format (.doc, .docx, or .odt). PDF-formatted papers will not be accepted. Images and figures are acceptable and encouraged, provided they are properly sourced and referenced. If applicable, a filmography section and an image source section should be included alongside the bibliography.
CRASH/CUT has two primary goals. The first is to serve as a showcase for exemplary student scholarship in the field of film/media studies at the University of Calgary. The second is to provide students with the experience of publishing a paper for an academic journal. Papers submitted will be subject to a review process, overseen by CRASH/CUT‘s editorial board. All writers, regardless of submission outcome, will receive feedback about their paper.
If you have a paper you would like to submit or would like to be a part of the CRASH/CUT Editorial Board, send your paper or an email to
